"Against the Tide"
This was both a frustrating and fun piece to do. I started out with a sketch and had to retrace it quite a few times, mostly because I don’t have quality pens, just sharpie pens that are difficult to control and often blotted. I painted the failed pieces as experiments, and I was using extremely cheap watercolors that I bought in a package for $1 from Big Lots a couple of years ago. I also use a lightbox for pieces like this that consists of a plastic bin and christmas lights inside, and paper that’s meant for mixed media and isn’t quite as pressed as it should be, so the paper did warp a bit.
Nonetheless, I absolutely love how this turned out. There is some problems - namely the torso’s anatomy is a bit confusing, plus the chest is a bit too wide/breasts too far apart, it looks a bit flat from the lack of a wave behind her, and the face is a bit ‘anime’ looking, but overall this one of my favorite pieces I’ve finished in a long time.
